FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is acupuncture?

Acupuncture is part of Traditional Chinese Medicine. It is an effective form of medical treatment which promotes natural healing in the body. Hair-thin needles are inserted into specific points on the body on meridians or channel pathways where energy flows naturally, much like the flow of a river. Like a river, these energy pathways are susceptible to blockages which lead to stasis and pain. Acupuncture stimulates the movement of blocked energy, thereby relieving stagnation and pain.

Does it hurt?

Most patients report no pain or mild tingling sensation like that of a mosquito bite that lasts only temporarily. This is normal. Many patients experience a sense of relaxation. The needles are hair-thin, about 1/10 the size of a hypodermic needle used in a doctor’s office. We take into account that every patient is different, and we work with each individual to ensure a pleasant experience.

Is it safe?

Yes, acupuncture is extremely safe and has been used for over 2,500 years. We use only sterile, single-use, stainless steel needles approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). We are also certified in Clean Needle technique training, as required for licensure.

How many treatments will I need?

This varies with different patients, depending on severity and duration of condition, patient’s overall health, and age plays a factor in how many treatments are needed.
